Privacy Policy

Signal is a personal reading board for Mac. This policy covers the Signal desktop app and the Signal Capture browser extension for Chrome. It is written in plain language on purpose: the short version is that Signal collects only what you save, keeps it in your own account, and never sells, shares, or advertises against it.

What Signal collects

• Your account. An email address and password (or sign-in method) to create and secure your Signal account.
• What you save. The feeds you follow and the items you capture: X bookmarks, YouTube Watch Later videos, Pinterest boards, RSS feeds, and pages you save through the extension. This is the content of your board, and it is the entire point of the product.
• Basic technical data. Standard server logs (IP address, timestamps) used to operate the service and keep it secure. These are not used for advertising or profiling.

What Signal never does

• Never sells or rents your data to anyone.
• Never shows ads, and never uses your data to target ads.
• Never posts on your behalf. The extension only sends the pages and posts you explicitly save.
• Never reads your browsing history. The extension runs only on the sites you save from (X, YouTube, Pinterest) and only when you act.

How your data is stored

Your library lives in a hosted Postgres database (Supabase) with row-level security: every query is scoped to your account, so no other user, and no one at Signal, can read your board without your credentials. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by the hosting provider.

The Signal Capture extension

The Chrome extension stores your connection token and a short queue of captures awaiting delivery, so nothing you save is lost during a network or backend outage. It requests access to X, YouTube, and Pinterest so it can read the pages you save, and to the Signal backend so it can deliver them to your board. It captures nothing unless you save it.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete any item, feed, or collection from your board at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact simon.keane@gmail.com and the account will be removed within 30 days.

Your rights

If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under GDPR, including access, correction, erasure, restriction, and portability of your data. Contact simon.keane@gmail.com to exercise any of them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a material way, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. Continued use of Signal after a change means you accept the updated policy.
